Over half a million people die violently every year, both within and beyond conflict zones. This will increase to 660,000 people killed violently in 2030 if we don’t significantly shift the status quo. Eighty-two percent of the victims of lethal violence are killed in homes, towns, cities and countries that are ostensibly “at peace”. This evidence brief provides an overview of the existing opportunities to address violence and the underlying trends facilitating urban violence.
