City Exchange Program
Peace in Our Cities (PiOC) promotes the exchange of knowledge and insights through peer-to-peer member exchanges.

City exchanges reinforce the many ways our members inspire one another. Focused exchanges help our members to deeply engage with promising work being done to reduce violence, assess applicability to their own contexts, and develop direct partnerships to advance prevention and peacebuilding.
Previous member exchanges have resulted in meaningful shifts in practice through the adaptation of approaches and methods.
Previous exchanges
Bristol & Oakland (October 2025)
Representatives from Oakland, California, USA, traveled to Bristol, U.K., to discuss violence prevention, including specifics on implementation alignment between political, police, and community actors, and how to engage more deeply on preventing gender based violence.
Edmonton & Casper (August 2025)
Representatives from Casper, Wyoming, USA, traveled to Edmonton, Canada, to learn about the development and implementation of their Blueprint for Violence Prevention and various programs that support the city and law enforcement to reduce violence. Rosario & Cali (July 2025)
Representatives from Cali, Colombia, traveled to Rosario, Argentina, to conduct a training on community mediation and violence interruption, meet with city officials, and engage with business representatives on the city’s approaches to violence prevention. Godoy Cruz & Peñalolén (June 2025)
The exchange between Godoy Cruz, Argentina, and Peñalolén, Chile, offered both cities valuable insights into local strategies for violence prevention, highlighting the critical role of strong local leadership to drive cities to invest in violence prevention and the fact that quality data is crucial for informed and efficient decision-making and community engagement. Bristol & Edmonton (October-November 2023)
Representatives from REACH Edmonton (Edmonton, Canada) visited Empire Fighting Chance (EFC) (Bristol, U.K.) to exchange insights on developing practices of youth engagement and community safety. EFC, an innovative non-contact boxing gym, has become a center of violence prevention in Bristol. REACH Edmonton shared information about how to navigate local collaborations as an organization-based office of violence prevention.
